Iqra
That is the first surah that has been revealed by Allah SWT to the Prophet Muhammad.
Surat al-‘Alaq is the 96th sura or chapter of the Qur’an. It is composed of 19 Ayat (verses), and is traditionally believed to have been revealed at Mecca. It is sometimes also known as Surat al-Iqra (Recite).
The first five verses of this sura are believed by nearly all sources, both traditional and modern, to be the first verses of the Qur’an to be revealed to Muhammad.
“Read, in the name of thy Lord who created, man from a clot. Read, for your Lord is most Generous, who teaches by means of the pen, teaches man what they know not,” (al-’Alaq: 1-5)
Muhammad is first commanded: Iqra!. Which the literal translation is “recite” or “read”.
It is no wonder why the first verse that has been revealed to the Prophet is regarding read, since it is source of knowledge. There are many benefits of reading in Islam. Education and civilization are rest on the ability to read. It all started with the word, “read!”
The english translation will be reading while your in the train (or light train or tube or subway). It’s an event have been planned once a month by a group of book lover here in Malaysia. The first event was successfully held on January and about 70 people turn up to give support.
Yesterday event was the second and insya-Allah, a lot more to come. Alhamdulillah, I was participate in this program for the first time and get to face to face with some of my friend that before I only know them through the blog. What I can say, it is a good idea to promote the reading while in the train since it is amongst the famous transportation in Kuala Lumpur.
It’s one of the initiatives to get more Malaysian to read and since LRT or subway is one of the mostly used transportation in the city, it can be considered as a moving reading place. Although some will disagree because it’s not easy to read while standing on the LRT but it is still for me a very good campaign to get Malaysian to read more. Not to show to people that we are good but to cultulrize our society to read everywhere they go.
Unfortunately, I don’t bring my own camera and that is the only my picture I found in the one of the participant’s Facebook.

Note: All pictures taken from here except the above picture.

Assalamualaikum. I wish I’m there, reading books with everybody. Glad there’s initiative to make this happen. I wish I’m there. Really.

ya..it was very nice feeling to see people read in the train.
of course, in japan it is a normal phenomena.but in malaysia, people still feel shy to read in the public places like lrt, bus etc..it’s take time to change…

love reading. if i have the opportunity to read, anywhere, then i will. inside a train, just read. no need for a campaign to start reading.
but a good initiative. so that those who seldom read can give reading inside trains a shot.
may Allah bless

the purpose of the campaign is basically to gather people that have same interest. sebab kadang-kadang kita ada niat tapi rasa malu nak buat kat tempat awam.tapi bila buat ramai-ramai macam tu rasa tak segan. saya sendiri selepas program tu dah rasa tak malu nak baca buku dalam LRT.
ya, may Allah bless us..
